Going Through the Dark Valley

Dear Friends:

“Even when I go through the darkest valley,
I will fear no danger, for You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff – they comfort me.” ~ Psalm 23:4

For those of you who read the prayer blog we sent out on Monday, you know that we have been walking through a dark valley here at Agape House. This is no surprise to most of us here because we know that for these girls to find the healing they need, they are going to be challenged. Praise God that we also know that on the other side of that dark valley there is freedom, hope and healing, as we trust in God to be our strength, and so much more! We know the battle has already been won; we just need to learn to walk it out.

I am reminded every year as we go through the Easter Season that it aligns with the time of year when our girls and their families are truly learning the meaning of what was done for us when Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins – Amazing!

Blessings . . .

Prayer Against Spiritual Warfare

Dear Friends:

Please pray the following prayer with us against the enemy on behalf of our girls and their families:

Jesus, we recognize that the enemy is at work again. He’s trying to discourage us to sidetrack us from working through our issues by tempting us, causing us to give up or take our eyes off You.

We need your supernatural power, Lord, to stand strong and not surrender. Physical force won’t help, because You’ve said the weapons of our warfare are different from those in this world. As believers, ours are powerful and can demolish strongholds and lies. These weapons originate from You. By Your precious name and blood, Jesus, we’re asking you to confuse Satan and cancel his attempts to shut down Your influence upon us. Help us not to become discouraged or to give in when heavy times of testing come.

We know that when we are weak, You, Lord, are strong, and You are our only source of help. We cannot fight without You. Teach all of us how to pray to trust You to pull down those strongholds that keep us or others helpless. Guard us from isolation that leaves us exposed and vulnerable. You destroyed the enemy by Your death and resurrection. But the enemy keeps showing up, whispering lies, twisting truth, and attempting to inflate our selfish pride; he never gives up.

We are declaring the devil and his demons liars today, Lord. Through the power of Your precious name and blood, we agree with Your word and prayer, Lord, are our secret weapons. We belong to You, and that fills us with a powerful God-confidence. We want to constantly dress in the spiritual armor You give us. Help us use it to defend others from Satan’s fiery darts as well. No one and nothing can snatch us away from Your hand.

Strengthen our faith, Lord. Forgive our sins so that we may be clean in Your righteousness. Make us brave, so we can stand and fight the spiritual battles in our lives and in our world. Give us Your wisdom and discernment so we won’t be caught off guard. Together, Lord, we’ll win because in truth, You already have.

In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen! (Prayer by Crosswalk)

“For God so loved the world that He gave
His one and only Son, that whoever
believes in Him shall not perish
but have eternal life.” ~ John 3:16

Taste and see . . .

“Taste and see that the Lord is good;

Blessed is the one who takes refuge in Him.” ~ Psalm 34:8

Dear Friends:

I am always happy when we reach the end of January; to me it seems like the longest month of the year. The holiday celebrations are over, the days are short and cold, we’re dealing with winter weather conditions (although this year has not been too bad), and we need to think about getting our taxes done by April 15th! And through all of this, we are blessed because we are able to see how good God is, and take refuge in Him, all the time.
And now that we have reached the end of the month, we will see the days begin to fly by . . . soon we will have April Showers and May Flowers; God is good!

Blessings . . .

Fully Equipped

Mark Your Calendars for our 5K on April 28, 2018; register at website under ‘Get Involved/Events’

Dear Friends:

It’s been a busy week at Agape House, on so many levels; with some moments better than others! Through it all, it’s good to know that we can trust God to equip us each day to deal with any and all difficult situations that might arise.

“For the eyes of the Lord move to and from throughout the earth so that He may support those whose heart is completely His.”  ~ II Chronicles 16:9

There was a special birthday luncheon on Tuesday, sponsored by Terri Sitorius, as the girls were treated to a delicious meal with fun New Year’s decorations and gift bags. Those girls who have a birthday this month received special gifts, too.

And we celebrate each girl’s birthday big time when it arrives. There were special treats and activities in school on Wednesday for one of our girls’ birthday, as well as after school in the Home. This young lady officially became a teenager this week, and she clearly portrayed evidence of becoming a teenager: 13 going on 30!

A few days ago we had Rebecca from Lighthouse Church share her testimony with the girls at chapel, wherein she talked about having a ‘Back Story’. She explained that when we are going through a challenging situation in life, we need to be able to look back and remember the times that God has helped us get through difficult situations and how we were blessed: this is a ‘Back Story’. What a beautiful testimony for our girls to hear!

Today the girls are visiting the Lakeland Animal Shelter where they will learn about the adoption process of pets.

The list of activities goes on and on; there’s hardly a dull moment around here. And best of all, through the ups and downs, we see God’s love in action!

Blessings . . .

Jan

Please Pray For:
~ our girls to know the beauty of how much our God loves us, and that He is looking out to support those whose heart is completely His.

~ physical, emotional and spiritual healing for our girls. One of our girls is at home recouping from surgery she had after Christmas; pray for her to stay strengthened and hopeful for the time when she is ready to return to Agape and that her healing is progressive in a positive way. Another girl is struggling immensely; and one of our girls is asking for prayers for her brothers to have safe travel and find their way into the light of God!

~ the staff to continue to be strengthened in Christ’s ways; that we are not discouraged; that we seek God to equip us in the difficult moments; and that we are not pulled into the dark, chaotic moments of the girls.

Praise God For:
~ for the progress we are seeing in some of the girls as we watch them grow closer to God, and learn to deal with their anxieties in more positive, effectual ways. It’s also beautiful to see them encouraging each other in many ways!

~ the many ways God’s love is poured out upon our girls, including those who share their testimonies!

~ that we know God answers prayers.

What will you give back to God in 2018?

Dear Friends:

We’ve come to the end of another year. Did you accomplish what you set out to do this year? Or are you going to repeat the same resolution for 2018? What if you give something back to God?

I feel closer to God this year because I trusted in Him with all my heart (most days), to lead me and guide me through my day without having to hurry and scurry through to get everything done on my ‘to-do list’! I learned to live in the moment, with less stress. It is a very peaceful way to go through life, and I like it!!!

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer
and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests
be made known to God; and the peace of God,
which surpasses all understanding,
will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
~ Philippians 4:6-7

What would you like to give back to God in 2018? This is the question Pam asks every year of our staff and our girls. As the girls took turns opening their Christmas gifts, they had the following responses to this question:
TIME
LOVE
MYSELF
COURAGE
MORE TRUST
MY STRUGGLES
MORE WAYS TO SERVE
TALENTS & RESOURCES
CLOSER RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD

I pray that you find peace in your life with whatever it is you might choose to give back to God.

“Rejoice in the Lord always, I will say it again: Rejoice!”  ~ Philippians 4:4-7

Merry Christmas from Pam Patterson

Merry Christmas Friends:

How to sum up this year, never mind the past 20 in one short letter, other than to say God is good and He is faithful. Agape House celebrated its 20th anniversary this past November by sharing a 3-part video about how awesome our God is, that He is faithful to break the chains and set the captives free! (Note: This 3-part series can be viewed our website under ‘What We Do; Our History’).

This year we are ministering God’s hope and healing by sharing the love of Jesus to 17 girls and their families. Both our Teen Home and Transitional Living Home are full, and we continue to get telephone calls asking for help. It reminds me of Mary and Joseph looking for a place to rest their head and give birth to our Savior, but all the inns were full. Until one man said they could use his stable – he offered what he had and the Son of God came to earth to give us the greatest gift of all, His love, all the way to the cross.

This Christmas season as you may be looking for the perfect gift, remember the greatest gift is love; our love and God’s love. Love transforms lives, heals broken hearts and sets captives free. We don’t need more stuff, we need more Jesus because He alone is the greatest gift of all.

Thank you for your love and support and for helping us share the love of Jesus with these girls and families. Thank you for being like the inn keeper offering your gifts, talents and resources to make a difference.

Praying Jesus’ love fills your hearts and home this Christmas.

With all His Love,
Pam Patterson

Dear Friends:
“For unto us a child is born . . .”
~ Isaiah 9:6. At Agape House, we are emphasizing to our young ladies that this is the reason for the Christmas season. It’s so easy to become distracted by the ‘Black Friday’ specials, and many other sales presented to us. Or we might get caught up in the decorating, cookie baking, shopping, writing cards, wrapping gifts, etc. What a beautiful teaching opportunity for us, as our precious Agape Angels are learning who they are in Christ, and how much God loves each one of them.

We hope you will join us for our Christmas Open House. Click on the tab at the top for more information.

Please Pray for:
~ Christmas to be different for our Agape Angels this year because it is all about the birth of Jesus.

~ our girls and families to understand who the true enemy is, and that they stop fighting with staff, parents, etc.

~ for God’s healing touch upon the girls, staff, and families – the need for prayers in this area is great!

Praise God for:

~ God, our great Physician, whom we can turn to for healing of our deepest hurts!

~ For the joy of lunchtime with friends! It’s been very busy around here this week. In addition to preparations taking place for our Open House on Sunday, one day the girls were helping decorate the 9′ Christmas tree in the Sanctuary, and at the same time, we had volunteers working on a roof repair project outside. We love when our volunteers join us for lunch; it’s a small way we can show our appreciation for their service!
