Learning Programs Broaden Horizons

Agape House is participating in a project with International Little Artists (ILA), a Walworth-based foundation that has created a virtual global place for children around the world to share their messages through art. The project allows the students to exchange inspirational art and messages including painting, poetry and music, with youth around the world. The project was recently kicked off with a workshop led by ILA founder, Lucie Hake. Agape House School teaching assistant Tina Dillman will travel to India this week with a student on a ten-day mission trip to deliver art and music created by the students from the school and other Wisconsin ILA members to share with children.

ILA works in partnership with global organizations to personally deliver art through the work of missionaries, teachers and medical teams who are traveling abroad for their own missions and reasons. Future components of the ILA project include art exhibits, fundraising and parties to increase awareness, participation and resources.

Students Visit State Capitol

Eight Agape House School students and their chaperones visited Rep. Amy Loudenbeck and Sgt. at Arms Anne Tonnon Byers at the state capitol on March 13 to learn about their roles as females in the state government. Sgt. at Arms Tonnon Byers spoke to the girls about her responsibilities and what it’s like to be a female in her position. Rep. Loudenbeck shared her life’s journey to the position she now holds and spoke of her passion for helping girls and women. Rep. Loudenbeck also outlined some of the legislative efforts she is involved in that will address challenges facing girls and women in Wisconsin. Rep. Loudenbeck offered encouragement to the girls and spoke enthusiastically about Agape House and School, which she has visited in the past. The students received a private tour of the capitol building, exploring both the Senate and Assembly chambers and learned about the building’s history.

Walworth’s Agape House Offers Healing to Abused Girls

Agape House Children Praying

Teachers and students say a prayer in a hallway before going to lunch at Agape House in Walworth. The facility is a private treatment home and school for abused girls.

WALWORTH–Much like close sisters, Faith and Olivia are bantering about the condition of their bedroom.

With a smile, one is teasing the other about clothes on the floor. When their giggling stops, Olivia shares a serious side.

“I haven’t been getting angry,” she says proudly. “At first I would blow up. But now I’m not getting angry.”

The girls, 12 and 13, share a room at Walworth’s Agape House and School, the only private treatment home and school in the state for girls and young women overcoming the effects of abuse and trauma. Read More
